You Can Just Clean Your Streets

NYC has started fining buildings that don’t use official trash bins, as part of what the Sanitation Commissioner calls a “trash revolution.” But thanks to City Edit, we’re already on top of the problem. After residents voted trash the neighborhood’s foremost issue on City Edit, our participatory mapping tool, we collected 65 pounds and 8 bags along Wyckoff Ave. This post explains tactical urbanism, why vetocracy keeps cities from giving residents what they want, and how City Edit helps neighbors decide on changes and carry them out.
